Parnell made his debut with the BoSox in 1947, and in 1949, he had his best year in baseball. That season he would lead the American League in Wins (25), ERA (2.77), Complete Games (27), Innings Pitched (295.1), and HR/9 (0.2), and he would finish fourth in MVP voting. Parnell would have three more seasons where he had at least 18 Wins, all of which seeing him net MVP votes.
Parnell retired after the 1956 season and left the game with a record of 123-75, and was chosen for the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1997.
